A New World Order is upon us, How and Why has it Happened? What will be the New Global Consensus? From June 14‐20, global activist Laurence Brahm will embark on a South East Asian Speaking Tour to promulgate the expansion of an emerging economic development paradigm: the “Himalayan Consensus”. Brahm will travel to Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia to speak to government officials and business moguls to share his experiences on building social enterprises and how changing consumer values will impact corporations today. He will draw from his work in building grass roots economic models, integrating ecotourism, healthcare, community development and environmental protection into what is fast becoming the Global Consensus movement. The global consensus movement evolved from the “Himalayan Consensus” paradigm he pioneered. The Himalayan Consensus economic development paradigm calls for: the protection of ethnic diversity and local identity, through sustainable business models, that in turn give back to the community and protect the environment. Sometimes called “Compassionate Capitalism”, this movement questions our economic assumptions and seeks to redefine measurements of success both corporate and individual. As the movement grows, newly evolving consumer values will change the nature of purchasing power, and the way corporations must interface with their markets. Brahm will explain how this approach has inspired Africa into adopting an African Consensus approach to development as a middle‐path between the Washington and Beijing Consensuses, and how this is affecting investment patterns and the future role of multi‐lateral financing institutions. The African Consensus now draws into question our assumptions about economic development, and reflects the changing geopolitical environment, the rise of China, South Asia and their effect on offering alternative models of development to the previous mainstream Washington Consensus. Member of The United Nations Theme Group on Poverty and Inequality, Laurence Brahm is a global activist, international mediator, lawyer, economist and author. He is the leading advocate of a fresh development paradigm – The Himalayan Consensus – an innovative approach to development. With 30 years experience in China and Asia, he has served as an advisor to multi‐national corporations and regional governments. He divides his time between Beijing, Lhasa and Dakar.
