In 2002, Brahm began making a series of documentaries in Tibet. From 2002-2006 Brahm directed two art-theatre films in Tibet – Searching for Shangri-la and Shambhala Sutra. The two films later were shown at the Aljazeera Festival in Doha (2008) and Santa Fe Art Theatre (2009).

Directing Searching for Shangri-la, he soon learned Shangri-la is a misspelling of Shambhala, a Tibetan Buddhist concept visualizing an idealistic, equitable world – without poverty, ethnic dignity, environmental protection, and world peace. This theme became the second film Shambhala Sutra. Brahm also directed a 33-episode travelogue entitled Himalayan Story.
